Through hours of pain, pushing, breathing, and some certain hard work - you bring a beautiful miracle into this world - all of which is the reason why childbirth is termed LABOR. Focusing on the outcome (a baby being born), keeping the right frame of mind, attending childbirth classes, and careful planning, childbirth can be a surprisingly beautiful and calm experience. In this article we will provide some tips and techniques to give birth to your little miracle naturally.
1. Find a doctor that supports natural childbirth. This is a crucial step to fulfill your wish of natural childbirth. Make sure you define with your doctor and support team what natural childbirth means to you. Does natural childbirth mean no drugs, avoiding c-section, water birth, home birth, no intervention - be sure YOU know what natural childbirth means to you. Next, choose your birthing location. Do you want to have your baby in at home, a birthing center or a hospital? Again make sure your birthing location supports your ideals of a natural birth.
2. Take good care of your body. Your body is the vessel in which your child grows from a microscopic cell to a chubby bundle of joy. Get good prenatal care, sticking to a healthy diet and getting prenatal exercise is essential to keeping your pregnancy low-risk and achieving your idea of natural childbirth.
3. Attend childbirth classes. You will learn about different techniques to achieve a natural childbirth, including Lamaze which will help you learn to distract during contractions and decrease your perception of pain and methods to decrease the discomfort you will experience. Additionally, you will learn about different methods of delivery such as a water delivery. Water delivery offers the buoyancy effect which can have a tremendous effect at alleviating the pressure and pain you will experience. Water delivery also provides an environment for the baby to enter the world similar to that of the womb with less sound, light and temperature changes.?
4. Take pleasure in your pregnancy. Taking the 9 months you have to grow this miracle in your body is a miracle in itself. Try to remain as happy and calm as you can. Not only is it good for the baby and your general well-being but it also produces hormones oxytocin and endorphins. These are "feel-good" hormones that pass through the placenta and are exchanged with your unborn child.??
5. Trust your body. Educating yourself on childbirth is most certainly recommended but don't overestimate the body's power of instinct. Trust that your body knows what to do. You can help it out by being in the right state of mind and educating yourself on the body's way of know exactly what to do.
??
6. Mind set. Prepare your mind for the realities of childbirth by watching natural childbirth videos and reading childbirth preparation books
??
7. Labor. During labor - remember to BREATHE. This labor method is the oldest of them all and essential to relaxation. Visualize less pain - create a mental picture of the child in your harms, work through thoughts of fear, pain and visualize yourself working through it. Tune in with soothing music if possible. Start with soothing and calm music and as labor progresses switch to faster tempo music. Music is a great distraction to pain.
??
8. Birth. At the moment of birth, if possible, bring the child to your bare chest. Let the baby hear your voice and heartbeat and smell your scent. If breastfeeding, offer your breast as soon as possible.
Remember to remain flexible. Your ideal labor and delivery will be a natural one, but be flexible and open enough to realize when medical intervention may be needed for the safety of the baby and yourself. Follow your doctor's recommendations and remember the ultimate outcome and goal is the safe delivery of a healthy baby.
Congratulations. Pregnancy, labor and birth happen thousands of times a day but the miracle of it is unique to you and your child and is a true miracle of life.
