Today you woke up in your rented apartment and got to work in your rental car (hopefully provided by your company). You probably entered a rented office where "rented" part-time contractors welcomed you. If you go on holidays the plane you're flying in is probably a rental too because airlines don't bother with owning their own aircrafts any more.
You can rent anything, a TV, a computer, you name it. But can we go even further? Think about renting those 4 things:
- Your Dog: Yes the dog. Why not? Let's say your daughter desperately wants one but you know you'll end up taking care of the dog. Well you just have to rent a dog for 6 months with a buy option. And if one day you are tired of it you don't have to pretend that you sent him out in the country side, you just brought him back to the shop.
- Your Diploma: This one I've not figured out yet. But I think there's a market for people who want to try a field for one year or two and can't be bothered to get a full diploma for that. Can you just study some of the modules that give you access to the renting with a full support staff helping you on a daily basis? I don't know but if you have a business plan let's launch a start-up
- Your CFO: This one already exists for small companies. Instead of paying for a full time rubbish CFO, you "rent" a top of the range CFO for 8 hours a week. It's probably a better option for a start-up and it's definitely going to get bigger in the next few years
So what do you think guys? Are we going to rent friends soon?
