Earlier this year we visited Se?or Taco at CHIJMES which offered plenty of meat dishes from their Chicharron de Ribeye to the pork carnitas tacos. With their fourth outlet at The Star Vista in Buona Vista, Se?or Taco draws inspiration from Mexico's shores and offers a wider variety of seafood options with new dishes such as Tostadas Del Pacifico and Marlin Tacos in an alfresco dining area. Good news for seafood lovers living in the West!
We snacked on some nachos and salsa while waiting for our food, and a Mojito or a Magarita would ordinarily be my drink of choice (and Se?or Taco makes one heck of a strong Magarita!). But having spied a beer I'd never seen before, I knew I had no choice but to try it - Daniel wouldn't forgive me otherwise.
Exclusive to all Se?or Taco outlets, Pacifico is brewed in Mazatlan, a port city in the south of Mexico, and offers a slightly malty flavour with just a touch of hops. A fairly clean-tasting pilsner that pairs well with the strong flavours of Mexican cuisine, Pacifico is worth ordering, especially at the promotional price of $8 (UP $12.90) from 12pm to 8 pm at Se?or Taco's Star Vista outlet. The promotion is on from now til the end of November.
This outlet is also introducing a set lunch special from 12pm to 3 pm, Monday to Friday. You get a main course just $9.90, and 50% off your choice of drinks. We sampled one of the more popular main courses - the ceviche.
I'm not a fan of ceviche. Most places tend to use too much acid or leave the fish in the marinade for way too long, turning tender fish chunks into a slimy mess. Fortunately, Se?or Taco's version still retained a nice bite, with just enough sourness for picquancy and a generous mound of ripe avocado slices for a buttery-smooth mouthfeel.
In keeping with the fish theme, we also had one of the new dishes - Tostados Del Pacifico.
These tacos didn't look typical at all, with a colourful garden salad of thinly sliced red cabbage and micro-herbs atop lime-cooked fish and crunchy torillas. A creamy mayonnaise-based sauce tied everything together.
We couldn't resist the pork carnitas as well (having tried it at their CHIJMES outlet), served with soft tortillas made in Se?or Taco's very own tortilla factory.
